Which software application should I use
When I think of Microsoft applications, there are 3 big ones that come to mind. Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
These are 3 extremely powerful tools that most people have some experience with
in some sort of capacity. Each product has their own specific use and like most
things, come with pros and cons. In this discussion, I am going to explain the
uses of each product along with some of those pros and cons.
As I mentioned, each product has a specific function.
Word is mostly used for writing purposes. Being a student and a corporate
employee, I use Word on a daily basis. Every school discussion that I write is
written on Microsoft Word and then pasted into Canvas. Word has its pros and
cons. Some of the pros are its ability to edit text into many different forms,
another pro is the editor button which allows to you go in and check for
spelling and grammar. This is a great way to not have to go in and manually
check for errors. One con of Word is that there are so many features that it
may be a little overwhelming at times.
Excel is an amazing tool that
I use on a daily basis at work. Excel is a very advanced tool that has so many
uses. For the most part, Excel is used to store and manipulate data. At my job,
we use excel to store data for pricing of equipment. We are able to take that
data an organize it in many ways, create spreadsheets, graphs, and so much
more. One pro of excel is that is allows you to manipulate large data sets
quite easily. There are also many formulas that create shortcuts which allow
you to do certain tasks much faster. A con is that it can be difficult for new
users. As I mentioned there is so much you can do with Excel, I have been using
it for over 8 years and there are still so many things I do not know.
Lastly, PowerPoint is another
powerful tool which allows you to create presentations. You can take the data
you have in excel and create visual representations on power point which you
can then present. This is an effective tool to capture key points into a
presentable form. One pro of Power Point is its customization. There is almost
limitless customization you can create. A con is that there is only so much
information you can fit into a PowerPoint without making is horrible to look
at.
When choosing a product to document information about
your day, I would choose PowerPoint. The reasoning for my choice is that I
think PowerPoint is the most pleasing to look at in presentation form. The
other 2 products are more for storing information rather than presenting it in
my opinion, and I would rather watch a PowerPoint than look at an excel or word
document. Another scenario where PowerPoint is preferred is presenting
findings. I am a career analyst and I use PowerPoint all the time when
presenting projects. It is the easiest and cleanest way to present key findings
or points to people.
