Adobe Lightroom app review

Being a photographer, this is an application I use daily. I started using Lightroom about 7 years ago when my photography journey started, and I have witnessed a lot of progression and innovation within the app. The app was founded about 9 years before I started using it (2007) and has come along way since. When it comes to photography and editing, Lightroom is by far the most popular one. Lightroom is the most advanced editing software and is constantly evolving. Lightroom is currently on version 12, so it has seen many updates since initial release. With each update, there have been major improvements on the app itself and the ability to edit photos.

The above photos show the beta version of the app compared to the newest version of Lightroom. You can see just how different the beta version looks from the latest version., but you can also see the similarities. They have done a good job at keeping the structure of the app and placement of tools in the same area for the most part, all while making it much more organized and neat looking. The bottom photo cuts off the top panel which has tabs to navigate the app. I would say the biggest difference is the colors, in the beta app, the panels are white and just look messy, the new version you can see the grey/black panels. I feel that the coloring makes it a lot easier to navigate to the different areas of the app. One of the biggest improvements this app has seen is something that came out recently. Everyone knows what Ai is these days, and adobe was able to implement that into the latest version. There is now an Ai feature in the app that can do pretty much anything you want it to. I have seen it mostly used to remove unwanted objects in pictures or add things in the background. These are things that were possible before however, they were just very manual and time-consuming processes. Now, with Ai, it takes seconds. If you have not seen lightroom Ai in action I would recommend searching it on YouTube, some of the possibilities are pretty unreal, and the feature is still in beta so it will only get better.

It is really hard to propose any improvements because the Adobe team is so ahead of the game and are already improving things that I haven’t even thought about. If I had to choose, there are some very minor things. The first one being the price. While I do not have a problem paying for the app because of how good it truly is, there are competing editors that are essentially copying lightroom and giving it our for free or much cheaper. One other thing I would propose is adding more advanced editing tools. While Lightroom is more than enough for most of my photos there are certain times where I will need to use another application for a specific fix. Luckily Adobe has Photoshop which you can pretty much create anything with however, I wish they would implement some tools from photoshop to lightroom just for efficiency. The last thing I would propose is to improve the file management tools. At first the organization of file management in Lightroom is a little confusing and hard to get used to, after using it for a while you understand it. But I think they could simplify how photos are stored.
