The importance of computers in the work place

Every industry today involves some use of computers, even if you do not realize it. I am an analyst in a construction rental company so for this discussion I am going to speak on construction and the use of technology from my experience. Being an analyst, the computer is the main part of my job. When you think of a company that deals with construction equipment you really aren't thinking of computers however, they are more involved than you would think. A big part of my job is creating purchase orders and tracking all the data that is included in those orders. My company has billions of dollars worth of equipment and each piece of equipment has been tracked and bought with the use of computers. Without them, it would likely be impossible to scale the company to the size it is today. Even beyond what I do, the computer is a major part in construction. As technology advances, so does construction equipment itself. Most advanced tractors today use internal computers for many purposes whether its gps tracking, weight and balance, and so on. 

Considering the historic trends of technology and computing it seems that computers are just going to be more and more involved, not only in construction, but everywhere. if you go back just a short 100 years ago construction equipment had no use of computers but if you look today, almost every piece of equipment uses them in some form. Its so important for employees to become more computer literate because as we all have witnessed, computers are becoming more and more relevant everywhere we go, technology is moving fast, and it will leave you behind if you do not keep up.
