Intro to programming languages
My experience using
scratch overall was well. I’ve never heard of this program prior to this class
but after using it, I found it to be extremely helpful in understanding the
fundamentals of coding. I am still new to coding; however, I immediately see the
similarities of scratch and your common programming languages. It is really
basic, but allows you to gain a understanding of the structure. It was a little
difficult at first and I needed to research other projects to see how they were
put together. To my surprise, there were some complicated games built, at least
more complicated than I would expect with this program. After reviewing other people’s
projects and watching intro videos on the program, it opened my mind to what
could be done with the program. As I said, I am still very new to all of this,
so my project was extremely basic, but in the process, it gave me insight on
the possibilities of coding, as well as how to structure the code. Again,
scratch is much more basic than the languages discussed in the textbook, as you’re
not really coding, but more so building. The language I found most easy to use
is HTML, probably because it is the most basic, I would say. There is pretty
much a different language for all kinds of scenarios, for example. HTML is more
for the basic structure of a website, while JavaScript really brings the
website to life and allows it to be more interactive. There are tons of other
languages that are used for different applications, and it seems that more and
more keep coming out. In my opinion, I would say that JavaScript is most
popular. My reasoning for this is that the internet is so big today, and almost
every website you encounter includes JavaScript. It allows the website to come
to life and be more than just words. I think to become a successful coder or
developer, you need to know JavaScript.
